DDR5-6000 with CL30 timings is the most common memory recommendation for AMD’s AM5 platform. It’s fast enough to get good performance from Ryzen 7000 and 9000 CPUs while staying in the speed range their memory controllers handle reliably.

Why 6000?

On AM5, the memory controller and the processor’s internal fabric work best together around DDR5-6000. Much faster kits often require running the memory controller at a lower ratio, which can cancel the benefit. 6000 is the safe, fast middle ground.

Why CL30?

CL (CAS latency) is one of the memory’s timings: lower means faster response. At 6000, CL30 kits are common and give a small performance advantage over CL36 or CL40 kits.

Three kits to compare

Setting it up

  1. Install two sticks in the slots the manual recommends (usually A2 and B2).
  2. In the BIOS, enable EXPO (AMD) or XMP (Intel). Without it, the memory runs at a slower default speed.
  3. The first boot after enabling it can take a long time while the board trains the memory. That’s normal.

Bottom line

For AM5, a 2×16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit with EXPO is the default choice. Enable EXPO in the BIOS, and be patient on the first boot.
